What If Six Weeks From Now, This Wasn't Your Life Anymore?
I Help Reactive Dogs & Owners To Get Their Life Back
Specialist reactive dog training in Wrexham, North Wales and NW England
Reactive dogs can make everyday life feel exhausting. The barking, lunging, pulling, constant scanning, and feeling like your dog completely switches off outside can leave walks stressful instead of enjoyable
My focus is helping dogs to become calm, focused and confident in real life situations
That means working on arousal, engagement, structure, and practical skills that help both you and your dog cope better when distractions, triggers and pressure appear in everyday life
It Is For You If You Are
-
You tense up before every walk, scanning the street for the next dog, jogger, or cyclist that's going to set them off
-
You've cancelled plans, avoided visitors, or timed your walks for 5am just to avoid a meltdown
-
You're consumed with guilt and the thought of rehoming them
-
You've tried the generic advice, the YouTube tutorials, the "just be firmer" tips, and nothing's actually changed
-
You love your dog fiercely, but some days it feels like you're living with a stranger you can't predict
-
You're starting to wonder if this is how it's going to be
It Is Not For You If You Are
-
Not committed to changing yours and your dog's life
-
Expecting a magic wand or a quick fix
-
Not ready to approach this with an open mind
-
Happy to keep managing the chaos, rather than actually ending it
-
Not willing to show up for your dog the way they need

Hi, I'm Jake
I started Hatch Canine Behaviour because I understand the daily stress of owning a reactive dog — how it shrinks your world, and how everyone’s got advice that just doesn’t work. I’ve been through the trial and error myself, finding out the hard way what works, what doesn’t, and why
I struggled far longer than I needed to with my own dog, an Akita mix named Jay-Jay. Now I love nothing more than helping owners and dogs take their lives back. Your time together is too short to spend it stressed, on edge, or dreading the next dog you pass
Having a son changed my perspective. I want to show him that you can change people’s lives, master a craft, and genuinely enjoy it — which is why I doubled down on this work, moving from helping friends and family to strangers-turned-friends
I work with the “untrainable” ones, the lost causes.
If you need help, take action. Let’s talk.
You've been told...
-
"Just walk them more"
-
"They'll grow out of it"
-
"Use better treats like cheese or sausages"
-
"Be calmer"
-
"Be sterner"
And none if it has actually helped...
Your dog can sit, stay, and behave relatively well at home. Then the lead comes out and it's chaos, then the door opens, and it's like you don't exist
They pull. They scan. They fixate. They lunge. They ignore cues they definitely know. They struggle to settle, even after exercise.
This isn't actually a dog that wants to be naughty
It's a dog that's overstimulated, unfocused, and missing the skills to regulate themselves correctly
"I've tried everything..."
High value treats aren't the answer... otherwise your walks would already be calm
More exercise doesn't create control. It only creates a fitter, stronger version of your problem
Waiting for maturity doesn't teach a dog how to cope or regulate their emotions
The problem isn't effort. It's that most training never touches what actually happens outside
And when we are outside, we try and train IN the moment, which only creates more friction and frustration for you and your dog
We don't do quick fixes
There is no magic wand, there is no quick fix that works and stays working.
The real work begins where things fall apart:
-
On lead
-
Around distractions
-
When arousal is high
-
When your dog has already switched their brain off
Real world control, calmness, and connection. This happens when you prepare FOR the moment, not IN the moment
Even when life is noisy, unpredictable, and challenging
The goal isn't obedience for show. The goal is creating a working relationship between you and your dog, and to get you both on the same wave length
But...
You might be thinking:
-
"My dog is too much"
-
"Nothing works for us"
-
"We've tried training before"
That is exactly who I work with
Most clients come to me after advice, classes, and online tips that failed
Not because they didn't try, but because their dog needed clarity, structure, and a plan that works in real life
The truth is...
Dogs don't calm down because their owners get softer or stricter
They calm down when:
-
expectations are clear
-
arousal is properly managed
-
focus is trained and tested under pressure
-
the handler understands why the behaviour is happening
That's what we address. And that's why it works when generic advice hasn't
Walks feel chaotic. Control feels impossible. And your dog is always "on"
You don't need more hope. You need a clear way forward
Get in touch and tell me what your dog is like on a bad walk. Not their best day
That's where the real work starts
Tell me a bit about your dog and what's been going on
